Kilibe Icon Foundation

Kilibe Icon is a faith based Organization founded in 2010 out of deep concern about the high rates of poverty, ignorance, illiteracy, hunger, mistrust and diseases that prevailed and continue to prevail in Yumbe District then Aringa County, West Nile region in Northern Uganda. The desire of the founding members has been to see communities live in harmony, understand and respecting each other, and working together for development in spite of religious, political, social and economic differences.

Kilibe Icon is registered with Uganda Government, by Registrar of Companies as a Non-profit Company limited by Guarantee

Mission is to ““work for the development & empowerment of socioeconomically disadvantaged & vulnerable people in Uganda and assist them in addressing their poverty-linked issues”

WHATS THE NEED NOW

KILIBE ICON Uganda implemented the Pilot Menstrual Health Management (MHM) Project in partnership with Vitamin Angels, and the Government to address and identify barriers related to menstruation and whose impact reinforces inequalities in gender.

The project was a first of its kind in Yumbe district Uganda, where MHM was not previously a priority topic.

However, due to KILIBE ICON’s advocacy efforts and the innovative nature of the activities presented, the pilot gathered full support of District authorities This participation meant that schools, churches, and civil society organizations opened their meeting areas and staff time to participate in these trainings that focus on an innovative teaching method that is emotionally engaging, and empowers girls and boys whilst teaching them about menstrual health. Given the success of this initiative, and the potential it had to gather the necessary evidence to later influence national policy, the present proposal intends to scale up the MHM Project to 14 additional Sub counties of Yumbe. This expansion proposal draws from the pilot phase achievements and lessons of the project, and builds on the on-going projects of the 8thprogramme cycle aligned to national priorities and envisioned to be implemented.
