WACENA is an interdenominational, audacious humanitarian and gender equality organization legally registered in Uganda, East Africa, since 2008. Its primary activities include empowering, educating, and mobilizing women and girls in education, socioeconomic independence, peace, talent promotion, reforestation, and local inland tree species protection. In addition to the above activities, Christian programs like discipleship, wellness, outreach, evangelism, deliverance, fitness, and worship form the core programs within our Ministry. WACENA’s executive leadership team comprises women who are passionate, compassionate and committed servant leaders; helping women, girls and children to overcome adversity.
WACENA prioritizes service to women, girls, and children because they are the most vulnerable population in Uganda, and they face diverse challenges, barriers, and disadvantages related to exercising choice, amplifying their voices, and navigating the power differences and shifts in personal and professional relationships. Therefore, they need greater support and advocacy. In Uganda and many other African countries, if a woman or girl challenges or does not conform to a cultural or societal norm, the consequences for her can range from subtle social exclusion to threats or acts of violence or, in extreme cases, even death.
With a membership of 56 Secondary/High Schools, 61 Primary/Elementary Schools, 23 Churches and 27 Women led organizations; our Network continues to thrive by His providence and provisions from mission-oriented believers both locally and internationally.
“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”. (Jeremiah 33:2-3 NIV).
We warmly welcome everybody to join us and be part of the WACENA family for His triumphant glory, our Lord and God.
