“I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” – Matthew 25:40

New year, new beginning and new movement to the People in Need missionary.

I am Fady. I want to share with you about our vision in 2024,

The situation in Lebanon worsens with time and the most harm is caused to children. It deprives them of their most important right, which is education. Of course, this affects the future of an entire generation.

What is the reason behind the fact that 80% of refugees are illiterate?

1 – The reason is that they cannot afford the cost of studying

2 – Student overcrowding in schools.

3 – Student overcrowding in the classroom (50 students in one classroom).

4 – Demonstrations that often lead to the closure of schools

5 – The absence of the Lebanese government, the suspension of the Ministry of Education, and the absence of teachers due to non-payment of their salaries.

Our vision is to provide an after-school program at the site of a private school operated by the Syriac Orthodox Church in Zahle. Through partnering with our donors, who provide either one-time or regular donations, and by working with the church and at its facility, we aim to serve even more children from a variety of backgrounds, including children from impoverished families who cannot afford sending them to any school, those who have fallen behind academically due to inconsistent schooling, and those who lack access to educational resources such as newly arrived refugees. We want to give them dreams and hopes so they can grow up healthy and happy.

Educational Center Needs:
1 – Whiteboard and textbooks
2 – Need-based scholarships to fund students who are admitted and are enrolling in the private school operated by the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Baalbek and Zahle
3 – Transportation for students (some cannot travel to school due to the high cost of fuel)
4 – Teacher’s salary (our target teacher-student ratio is 1:15)
5 – School stationery

Subjects to be covered:

1- Math

2- Arabic

3- English

4- Science

5- Social-emotional Support

6- The Bible. We believe biblical knowledge such as those taught in Sunday schools and Bible studies are integral to a holistic learning for children.

Fady’s Experience in Education

Since 2011, the Lord has used me in the teaching profession, especially teaching students from very challenging backgrounds. I was teaching (Bible, Computer, and Math) in refugee camps. In the camp, I created and taught lessons to student from age 5 to 12. I also created and taught technical/vocational classes to youth.

It is important that we care for these children, nurture them spiritually and morally, and lead them to live lives for the glory of God
God will bless these children through us and through your contribution just as Jesus said in Matthew 25:40

Our Programs & Who We Serve

People in Need provides physical and spiritual support to Syrian and Lebanese families who are suffering from the economic crisis and political instability in the Middle East. Why Syrian and Lebanese Families? Ten years after the Syrian refugee crisis, about 1.5 million Syrian refugees are living in Lebanon. The COVID pandemic, coupled with the political and financial crisis in Lebanon, has led to a humanitarian and food crisis for the local Lebanese and the Syrian refugees. Because of the political turmoil in Lebanon, there is a lack of civil and government services for the masses. A Gap in Aids. The UN and many NGOs work exclusively with people in the UN-sponsored encampments, most of the beneficiaries are Arab Muslims. On the other hand, Christian Syrian families were not welcomed and had to rent apartments, which makes them ineligible to receive UN aids. Economic Crisis in Lebanon The Lebanese currency has lost 90% of its value since 2020. The pandemic only deepens the misery. Many heads of households lost their jobs or got paid with little wages. More than half of Lebanese are now living under the poverty line. Meeting Physical, Educational, and Spiritual Needs We have helped more than 200 families in need. Due to the generosity of our donors, we gave away $7000 USD-worth of food packages and supported 45 individuals with their healthcare expenses. With the public schools opened only two months in a year, we see tremendous opportunities in meeting our children’s educational needs in our upcoming after-school program. Fady also took time to do visitations and his words of encouragement are coupled with actions that met real needs. It resulted in some powerful spiritual and personal transformations as those he came in contact with believe that God has not forgotten about them in their misery and plights.
