Brief description of the applicant organization/group:

Word of Faith Church Intl-Ndhiwa is registered by the Kenya Government as a religious organization. It is a Pentecostal/charismatic Church that was started through God’s vision to Pastor Lawi Kinda Owino in the year 1998. It began as a fellowship at the pastor’s house and later in the year 2009 we established a church.

As a church, we intend to establish a home-based care center {HOME OF HOPE} with support from well-wishers and individuals to provide quality and affordable health, education, and feeding programs to orphans and other vulnerable children in our environs.

This care-based initiative will be used as part of the poverty alleviation strategy. We will work towards empowering community members, with a specific focus on quality and affordable education to orphans and vulnerable children through appropriate development initiatives. Our objectives are to improve the caregivers’ living standard through practical agricultural advancements, promotion of environmental sustainability, and creation of HIV/AIDS awareness and providing nutrition assistance to the infected persons, improve access to information technology, advocate for peaceful coexistence, protect human rights, and facilitate poverty alleviation.

Type of organization/group:

  • Local not-for-profit making organization.

Our long-term goal is for the orphans, vulnerable children and their caregivers in Ndhiwa and its environs to be allowed to contribute as the empowered equal members of the society in the poverty and rights abuses eradication.

In this project we will focus particularly on improving the education standards in the academy and unto caregivers. We will work with orphans, vulnerable children and their families to increase awareness of their right to education and access to information. We will focus on life skills, confidence-building and safeguarding strategies as well as providing support for victims of rights’ abuses with the support of community leaders.

  • Boy and Girl child leadership trainings on self-awareness and rights to health related issues held every week at the center including football session for boys and girls.

In line with our goal, we expect to see orphans, vulnerable children and their caregivers taking more leadership and decision-making roles within their communities, the society around putting their children’s education as a top priority, the vulnerable and orphaned children’s caregivers involved in business and enterprise projects to increase their families’ income.

The specific aims of the project are:

  • Increase recruitment, retention, and performance of orphans and vulnerable children in school.

  • Using the expertise of our team to share good practice across the County.
