HISTORY:

In October 2005, the first leader of YWAM Swaziland (currently YWAM Mbabane), Jim Nave, had a vision of an empty seat at a table, being the seat of the Swazi warrior. All of this evolved unto the establishment of a YWAM base in eSwatini, with Loren Cunningham himself travelling through the country, and initiating YWAM presence in this beautiful country, having been renamed to eSwatini a few years ago.

YWAM Swaziland started in 2007 and also conducted the first Swaziland DTS (Discipleship Training School) in the same year. Since then the base has also presented several other schools, including an SBS (Scripture Bible School), DBS (Discipleship Bible School), Cross cultural and a linguistic school (teaching siSwati).

CURRENT STRUCTURE:

Currently YWAM has 12 full time staff members (all volunteers). The movement also has a board of 6 members, consisting of 3 staff members and 3 persons that supports the vision and mission of the organization, making sure that we are accountable in every aspect.

YWAM Mbabane is a NON-PROFIT organization, which fully focuses on the development and improvement of people and structures across the emaSwati, but also the rest of the globe.

PROJECTS in eSwatini:

Currently the base are involved in the following projects:

We are doing evangelism and Bible study in schools, hospitals and prisons. We are also ministering at the school for the deaf in Siteki. We are also training entrepreneurs, and one of our staff members has recently been to a Business School in Germany for 3 months.

We are also working in several churches. We are involved in the counselling and management and youth work of several churches around the country. We also have a church planting project in eSwatini, in the Hluti-Sisiswe area, where we are also have a feeding scheme in the community, and provided clean water for the community by drilling a borehole. YWAM also has a strong focus on training the youth on how the Fourth Industrial Revolution, being Artificial Intelligence and it’s derivatives, can be used towards bringing a brighter future for our country, eSwatini.

Ywam is also focusing on education as a means of reducing physical and spiritual poverty. We are not only presenting training in Discipleship, the Bible and Cross-cultural Intelligence with the University of the Nations, but we have a siSwati Language Program as well as a training in Transformational Prayer Ministry that we offer to any church or organization who is interested. We also present a ropes course, which offers Training in Team building to schools, churches, businesses and other organizations in the country.

YWAM does not only do several Bible Study and Youth Programs to positively influence family life, but manages an orphanage in Motjane of about 15 children, as well as a widow project in Zone 4, where we monthly provide 18 widows with enough rations for their daily needs. We are also involved in building toilets and houses for the widows, and providing them with spiritual care and counselling.

Last, but not least, we are working with the government in the country in understanding of how the adoption of a Biblical Worldview can contribute toward the furthering of peace, security and prosperity in eSwatini. Amongst other initiatives we are planning a conference with parliament and adjacent structures in February 2024, presented by leading politicians in the YWAM Think Tank initiative, including Samuel Kullman, a parliamentarian in the Kanton of Bern, Switzerland.

FUTURE INITIATIVES:

Over and above of our current activities, we are looking into collaborating with sponsors in doing training in agriculture and manufacturing skills (including building loghomes) in the very near future. We are also looking towards establishing a terrain for a Spiritual Boot Camps on our base, and expanding training facilities and presenting more courses at our base.

CONCLUSIVE

Even though YWAM mainly functions ‘under the radar’ focusing on making an impact in society rather than ‘living in the limelight’ I hope that this summary can assist you to understand more of what we are doing and what we are aiming to do in the future.
